Roan Mountain – Fall Color Report

Roan Fall Color Report

Fall leaf color has come to Roan Mountain. Our man on the mountain reports from the top of the mountain.

Jamey Donaldson gives us an update on the fall color progress on Roan Mountain:

“While certainly not a fearless fall forecaster (= get mad at someone else if you make your plans based on this), this may be the peak weekend high on Roan depending on Friday’s Rain and Saturday’s Freeze:

Fall colors quickly developing atop Roan this week:  early in week ~30% color, now >50% color.

Yellows and bronzes winning, richer oranges and reds still developing.

Some spectacular maples and Virginia Creeper scattered from base to top of mountain.

Fall wildflower display in full swing with dozens of Aster, Goldenrod, and Gentian species peaking!  Most of these not bothered by the frosts, only the hard freezes.”

P.S. – Carvers Gap gate locked 30 September.
