How Flowers Flirt and Flourish
When spring comes to Roan Mountain the mountain celebrates with a profusion of wildflowers.
The Friends of Roan Mountain Spring Naturalists Rally (April 24-25-26) also celebrates with wildflower hikes and, this year, a flower herself, Tavia Cathcart Brown.
She will be the speaker on Saturday evening. The topic and the title of her forth coming book: How Flowers Flirt and Flourish: The Tricks and Trials of Floral Reproduction.
Wildflowers are one of the most fascinating of plants because they are designed to be attractive.
Their survival depends on them being attractive to pollinators. Tavia will show how flowers will do whatever it takes.

Just wanted to send out a reminder that the Volunteer
Garlic
Mustard Pull at Roan Mountain State Park and the Southern Appalachian Highland’s Conservancy’s Garlic Mustard Challenge is Saturday, April 18th.
We will be meeting at the Roan Mt State Park Headquarters/Conf. Ctr. parking lot at 9:30 AM. Please note the time has changed from the previously advertised 10 AM. We are now meeting at 9:30 AM!
The park will be providing large trash bags to haul the garlic mustard away in. Please bring your own work gloves, drinking water, snacks, and layered clothing appropriate for the weather. You want to wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and clothing that you don’t mind getting a little bit dirty.
